Getting There

Fozzil and Nadhirah had prepared this page for our overseas guests. We do hope you find the information useful.

As several airlines travel into Singapore and Kuala Lumpur we will focus this page how to get to Ipoh. Please do refer to our other pages on the different attractions, sights and gastronomical delights for Singapore and Ipoh.

IPOH is a quaint quiet little city nestled between limestone hills.

Via Kuala Lumpur

3-4 hour scenic bus ride direct from KLIA or LCCT
We recommend  one of these services which we find have a good safety record and are comfortable.
The above recommended services have a direct service from KLIA or LCCT to Ipoh and return.

A lovely 2-3 hour scenic drive from Kuala Lumpur
Use a world class highway the North-South Expressway.
The best exit to use is the 'Simpang Pulai' exit. It is by far the easiest exit to navigate.

Taking it back old school
Why not catch a train from KL Sentral to Ipoh? It will take a little longer, however hopefully closer to our wedding, the new and upgraded super shuttles would be ready and the estimated time is expected to only be 1.5 hours!

Via Singapore

Fly direct!
Budget air travel on Fireflyz 28 seater plane (BOOK EARLY!)

By coach
Travelling by bus is so convenient these days. While you can fly on Fireflyz, you can also choose one of the many coach companies that do the Singapore-Ipoh route. Travelling time is approximately 7-8 hours, but many of these coaches have huge, comfortable seats and only take a maximum of 27 passengers, meaning there is enough room for everyone.

They also offer in-house entertainment, where you can watch movies and be served with food and beverages on board.

By train
Unlike driving or taking the bus to Ipoh, this may take a much longer time. An option for those who are not chasing time or on a budget. Again, tickets can be bought online!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  1. Ipoh is a relatively safe, quiet city, however we do urge that you always aware of your hand carried items and BEWARE of snatch thieves on motorcycles and pickpockets. As a precaution never carry your bags on the side facing the road, do not use mobile phones whilst crossing the road and when having meals please do not leave personal items (mobiles, handbags, keys) on restaurant tables. Ladies, please keep your handbag on your lap when having meals.  Also just like every where else in the world, avoid entering dark areas alone.
  2. Please do not succumb to beggars or people asking for donations, most of them are frauds.
  3. Taxis - When choosing a taxi, ensure that you use a 'metered' service. The meter should start at RM2.00. Some larger establishments like KL Sentral could have a 'taxi ticket charge' however, this is rare in Ipoh. Do not allow the taxi man to try to 'negotiate/bargain' a fare with you. Always insist on metered service. Here are some taxi companies in Ipoh. Taxis attached to a particular taxi company are usually safer.
  4. A river separates the 'old town' and the 'new town' and driving around could be quite confusing, so get a detailed map or a GPS to get around and we also advise not to use the city buses,  these are highly 'old world' and do not work on any particular schedule.
  5. Ipoh people are generally helpful and friendly. English is also widely spoken, so please do not hesitate to ask for help when needed.
