Attractions

For 'out-of-towners' we hope you enjoy your time in Ipoh or Singapore

IPOH

KL-lites would travel all the way to Ipoh for our delectable food, but there are still quite a number of things you could do whilst you're here!

Sightseeing
Ipoh is known for the limestone hills surrounding the city. I recommend going to attractions which would allow you to appreciate the beauty of the limestones such as the Gua Tempurung, Kek Lok Toong (Cavern of Ultimate Bliss), Perak Tong (Perak Caves), Sam Poh Tong (Cavern of Triple Gems).
Refer the following websites for good summaries of the mentioned attractions and more:

For the adventurous
Gua Tempurung (depicted above) stretches for about 3km, one of the longest in Peninsula Malaysia. I've done the full track twice and I loved it! I HIGHLY recommend this as you could fully appreciate a limestone cave and its natural phenomenons. The full track is not for the faint-hearted, but pathways have been built halfway into the cave so that visitors could still appreciate its beauty without getting down and dirty!
Perhaps white water rafting tickles your fancy? This is close to the Gua Tempurung.

Activities
A fun waterpark!
Malaysia is HOT, yet hot springs seems like a 'thing to do'?
And why not when you're here in Malaysia, try NIGHT Markets. Unlike night markets in highly concentrated tourist areas, Ipoh night markets are actually a local activity and I LOVE it! There are plenty of foods and items to purchase. Remember to bargain if you're buying anything else rather than food stuff! They are open between 6pm - 10pm.
  • Sunday: Taman Cempaka
  • Monday: Taman Menglembu, Taman Ipoh Jaya (near Gunung Rapat)
  • Tuesday: Ipoh Garden East (not much Halal food, but plentiful of 'quality' pirated DVDs!)
  • Wednesday: Ipoh Garden (near Perak stadium), Bercham (Taman Pakatan)
  • Thursday: Taman SPPK
  • Friday: Taman Pertama, Pekan Razaki

SINGAPORE

We all know where this big little island is. But not all of us know how it all began.... So for the sake of those coming to our Singapore reception from all corners of earth, here's a little history of the Lion City.

According to the legend, during the 14th century, Sang Nila Utama, a Prince from Palembang (the capital of Srivijaya) , was out on a hunting trip when he caught sight of an animal he had never seen before. Taking it to be a good sign, he founded a city where the animal had been spotted, naming it "The Lion City" or Singapura, from the Sanskrit words "simha" (lion) and "pura" (city).

By the end of the 19th century, Singapore became one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Asia, with major ethnic groups in the country being the Chinese, Malays, Indians, Peranakans and Eurasians. When you are in the lion city, remember to soak in the atmosphere and check out some of the best sights for a complete Singapore journey.

Other than attending our wedding in Singapore, here are some things-to-do.....

Going to the zoo is not usually one of the 'Must-do' things on my travel wish-list (unless I'm doing the safari adventure in Africa), but I actually had a fantastic time when I went to Singapore's night safari the last time. Very engaging for all ages. Highly recommended!!!

Kampong Glam, where the Malay Heritage Centre is located, is also home to some of the oldest and most significant landmarks in Singapore's history. The Malay Heritage Centre is the best place to start tour of the Malay culture. This area is also THE chillout place for many young Singaporeans, getting their teh-tarik fix while smoking shisha and chatting away till late in the night. You can find heaps of these chill-out joints along Arab Street and Baghdad Street. Shops open till late.

Sentosa Island

Spend the whole day on this island, maybe even overnight. Its connected to mainland Singapore by a causeway and easily accessible by bus, tram or car.

In addition to existing attractions like the Dolphin Lagoon, Underwater World, 4-D show, wax museum,  Songs of the Sea, cool beach cafes and clubs, it has recenly launched the brand new multi-billion Resort World Sentosa. Attractions include a casino, Universal Studio and the world's largest oceanarium.

Shopping

Alongside 'eating', shopping is considered the national past time on the island. Ranging from hi-tech wares to designer wear, there is something for everyone.

Orchard Road is the top of your list, followed by Vivo City, Raffles City and Marina Square. For your knick knacks and other memorable finds, you can get from the ethnic enclaves like Little India, Arab Street and Chinatown.

Night Life

When it comes to night life, Singapore is not short of option. Clubs, pubs, restaurants, cafes are usually opened 7 days a week, from noon till late. Here is a list of places to check out at night.
