BREAKFAST AT HOLLYWOOD?
I LOVE having breakfast at Hollywood, a halal Chinese styled food court styled with a standard of hygiene which I believe is quite high for despite my tummy being rather weak, I have had no issues eating here! My favourites are:
Chee Cheong Fun
* a healthy choice for breakfast, steamed rice roll filled with prawn or chicken
Char Kuey Teow
* stir fried flat rice noodles. If you are allergic to shellfish, be careful as they automatically fry it with cockles. But you could easily request it be removed when ordering. If she doesn't understand you cockles in Malay is 'kerang' (pronounced ker - rung) or in Chinese 'see hum'.
There are also PLENTY of other options here from roti canai's to nasi lemak to a halal alternative to the famous Ipoh 'Sar Hor Fun'. Try also the coffee shop version for creme caramel. A slightly different take to an old favourite.
38 Jalan Lee Foh, Canning Garden
If you don't feel like coming for breakfast, Hollywood is open to about 5pm. In the evening a stall called Happy Fried Dough opens and its quite wickedly delicious too.

DRIVE THRU TAU FU FAH?

I never go back to Ipoh without making a visit to Funny Mountain. It is my FAVOURITE TAU FU FAH in the WORLD! Traditionally a Chinese dessert, it can be eaten for an in between meal. It's also 'drive through style'. So enjoy the delicious snack in the comfort of your own car and air-conditioning!
49, Jalan Dato Tahil Azar, 30300 Ipoh
It's closed every Tuesday and opens at 10.30am make sure you be there before 5pm as usually its finished by then!
Nasi Wangey
Watch out for this. My family LOVEESS this place, but I can't find online reviews for it and this is definitely NOT a place with a website. When I go back in October, I will take some pictures and give it a decent review.
For the less adventurous and wanting to remain away from stalls, this is a good alternative. A franchise chain started based on Ipoh's yummy food and its all over town!
Also, the coffees are 20%-30% cheaper than Starbucks. Marieta's personal favourites are the original white coffee, hazelnut blended ice and Ximut tea.
The price, yes it's ridiculous for Malaysian standards, and you could probably buy 10 ice kacangs outside but I love it! To affirm this recommendation, my MUM, my sister, Chooi Chee and Marieta loves the ice kacang here. Is that enough to assure you?
Watch this space as I will update it from time to time, or write more reviews on the blog.
Above are my personal favourites but if you want more, I found this blogger has done extensive research on deletable Ipoh foods and have an extensive list of reviews. If you don't know where to start try looking at this list my bridesmaid Chooi Chee has made up:

Ice Kacang, Teh Tarik and Cendol
Alright, I know there are amazing ice kacangs (shaved ice dessert with a lot of yummy condiments and combination of syrups), cendols and and teh tariks out there in several stalls all over Ipoh and they probably cost RM1.50. However, as silly as this is, my favourite ice kacang and teh tarik place is actually at Impiana Casuarina's Coffee House! One ice kacang is enough to feed 3 girls and the condiments stands true to the original ice kacang. Because it is slightly expensive, they can include original ingredients which are now rather costly such as 'buah nipah' (a jelly-like fruit which is hard to find). The price, yes it's ridiculous for Malaysian standards, and you could probably buy 10 ice kacangs outside but I love it! To affirm this recommendation, my MUM, my sister, Chooi Chee and Marieta loves the ice kacang here. Is that enough to assure you?
